Celtic defender Stephen Welsh has sent out a rallying cry to his teammates ahead of the Scottish Premiership title run-in, calling for a big push towards the end of the campaign.
With eight league games to go, things are as tight as can be at the summit of the table. The Bhoys lead the way but know that one slip-up could prove costly.
Welsh, who has started and played 180 minutes over the past two games, admitted that the Hoops have a team, and manager, capable of going the distance: “We have got a great squad, a great squad of players”, he said (Glasgow Times).
“It is a good environment to be in every day and we are all just pushing each other to be the best we can be as players and as a team. Yeah, it will be one big, big push.”
With two league winners’ medals to his name, the academy graduate knows what it takes to win a title.
Welsh understands that The Bhoys have to earn it themselves as he outlined his opinion that they won’t rely on anyone but themselves: “We don’t need favours”, he said.
“We are fighting on all fronts and it will take one big push from us. We are really looking forward to it. It is exciting to be involved.”
Over the next nine games – potentially ten – Celtic’s season will be defined. Succeeding in such clashes will be the difference between a successful return from Rodgers and a failed one.
The gaffer previously won countless trophies but with a close challenge, things seem different this time. It is officially crunch time for Rodgers and his men, with push arriving at shove.
