Joe Hart’s impending retirement and the end of his contract this summer have put Celtic in a position where securing a new goalkeeper is of paramount importance for the upcoming season.
Speculation has been rife about his potential successor, with Liverpool’s and Real Madrid’s back ups just some of the names being linked with the Celtic gloves.
Last month, the club were reportedly monitoring Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Çakır. He was rumoured to be available for around £7.5 million.
The 27-year-old Turkish international, who boasts a title, a Turkish Cup, and two Turkish Super Cups among 235 appearances for Trabzonspor, seems to embody the qualities Celtic seeks in Hart’s replacement.
However, Çakır’s has talked about his love for his current side, calling himself a fan after working his way through the ranks.
He said: [HITC]
“I have been a Trabzonspor fan since my childhood, my father instilled this love in us. After spending a certain period of time in the youth structure, I was promoted to the A Team.
“I lifted 4 trophies. For me, it’s an incredible feeling to win a trophy at the club I am a fan of. I’ve always been proud of that. It’s a great and honourable feeling to be the captain of this team.
“Playing for Trabzonspor was already my dream as a child. It gives great pride to me, my family and my loved ones.”
Those aren’t the words of someone who is looking to leave the club within the next few months. But, football is a funny game and things can change quickly.
