Celtic have identified the goalkeeper they want to sign to replace Joe Hart, according to a report from HITC Sport.
Footballing legend Hart is set to retire at the end of the current season. Naturally, the Celts are on the hunt for a replacement for the imposing Englishman.
Hart is not just a crucial member of the team on the pitch, but in the dressing room, too. He is a key leader in the squad, meaning his influence will be much harder to replace than a usual departing player.
The club, however, know who they want in the door to fill the gloves of the 36-year-old, and that is Caomhin Kelleher. Celtic want to sign the Liverpool goalkeeper having been impressed by him for a number of years.
The 25-year-old, though, is contracted at the Reds until the summer of 2026. Common sense tells one that any move for Kelleher would involve a significant fee, particularly after his standout performance against Chelsea in Sunday’s League Cup final.
Due to this, the Irishman joining his international teammates Adam Idah and Liam Scales in Glasgow feels like somewhat of a pipe dream, regardless if the Hoops want him or not. Should they rake in the vast funds from Champions League qualification, however, doors may well open.
