Pundit Gives Mikey Johnston Fee; Names Three Potential Clubs

Mikey Johnston’s resurgence at West Bromwich Albion has captivated fans and reignited discussions about his future in football, which will most likely be away from Celtic.

After a challenging period at Celtic, marked by injuries and a struggle to fulfil the high expectations set for him, Johnston’s loan move to the English Championship has proved transformative.

The Republic of Ireland international is now showcasing the talent that Brendan Rodgers, during his tenure at Celtic, believed made Johnston the club’s ‘most talented’ academy product. He’s scoring some wonderful goals, with six goals and an assist to his name in the CHampionship already this season.

This explosive form has endeared him to the Baggies’ supporters, who are now vocal in their desire to see him join the club permanently, especially as West Brom chase promotion to the Premier League.

With Johnston’s contract still binding him to the Scottish champions, any move would necessitate negotiations over a transfer fee—a fee that could be substantial given Johnston’s impact in the Championship.

Carlton Palmer, a former West Brom hero, has highlighted the potential for a summer bidding war, citing interest from clubs like Norwich and Sunderland, alongside the financial dynamics that could influence such a move.

He told Football League World: “He’s having a fabulous time at West Brom, and he’s enjoying his football there. He’s still currently got his contract at his parent club at Celtic, there is no fee being written to his contract, so who knows whether West Brom would be able to afford him with the new owners they’ve got in.

“But certainly, Norwich and Sunderland, and other prospective Championship clubs will be monitoring the situation given his outstanding form for West Bromwich Albion. With Sunderland’s policy of trying to buy young players, and get them in cheap, I don’t think Johnston will fall into that because I think Celtic will be looking at least £2m or £3m given his form in the Championship.

“So whether Sunderland have the money to pay that, Norwich do have the money to pay for Mikey Johnston, so we’ll have to see come the end of the season, but he’s certainly done great things at West Brom and attracting a lot of attention.”
