Luis Palma is set to be called up by his national side, despite his injury keeping him out of the Celtic squad.

The wonder missed Livingston’s visit in the Scottish Cup match at the weekend and is expected to remain on the sidelines for this weekend’s match against St Johnstone.

Despite Palma sustaining an injury in training, the Honduras Football Association has committed to including him in their squad for the crucial qualification match against Costa Rica on March 23.

Gerardo Ramos, the Honduras FA chief, has downplayed the severity of Palma’s injury, labelling it as “minor” and expressing confidence in Palma’s participation in the upcoming playoff.

He said: [Football Scotland] “Luis Palma has a minor injury that has been worked on with the National Team doctor in conjunction with the Celtic doctor. We are positive that Luis will be able to be there for this important match against Costa Rica.

“Logic tells you that Palma is one of the first on the teamsheet and we hope he is 100 per cent ready for that game. He does have a small injury, but it is nothing serious and he can recover in the coming days.

“We need the best possible squad for our dream of achieving qualification for the Copa America.”

Celtic are short on the wings, with Yang also suspended after his red card at Tynecastle. Kuhn started at the weekend, and grabbed his opportunity, impressing the fans in the stands. With Maeda scoring a hat trick too, it’s going to be hard for Palma to break back into this Celtic squad when he returns from injury.
