Former Celtic Striker Set To Land Key Liverpool Role

Former Celtic striker and academy graduate Mark Burchill is set to land a key role at Liverpool.

The club are on the hunt for a new manager following the confirmation that Jurgen Klopp will leave his post come the end of the season.

Richard Hughes – who could have come to Celtic in 2021 with Eddie Howe – was recently appointed the Reds’ new sporting director. According to the Liverpool Echo, his first appointment won’t be that of a manager and instead, he will bring in Burchill as a scout.

The pair played together with Portsmouth and worked together with the recruitment team at Bournemouth, where Burchill is set to leave his position as chief scout.

His playing career wasn’t overly prodigious, but the 43-year-old is now widely respected within the game given his experience and upcoming move to the English Premier League title-chasers.

Not many could have predicted the switch, but credit has to go to Burchill. He may not have reached the pinnacle of football in his playing days, but he is certainly making a beeline for it now.
