After widescale reports yesterday, Alexandro Bernabei’s Celtic exit has now been confirmed.
The left-back, who signed for the Hoops for 4.35 million euros (Transfermarkt) back in the summer of 2022, has joined Brazilian top-flight side SC Internacional on loan until the end of 2024. There is no mention of an option to buy in the official announcement of his acquisition from the club.
The departure of the 23-year-old came somewhat out of the blue although it was clear he was out of favour. Indeed, he has played only nine times for the Hoops this campaign, the majority of those having come when Greg Taylor has been injured.
Other than the Scotland internationalist, Rodgers has next to no options at left full-back now. Tony Ralston can deputise there and young Mitchel Frame has emerged from the academy but it shows a lot about what the manager thinks of Bernabei that he has sanctioned his departure.
It will be a fresh start for Bernabei in Brazil, and he will be much closer to home there. The treble-winner will now be looking to follow the likes of Mikey Johnston and Bosun Lawal in impressing while out on loan from Celtic.
