Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is envious of academy graduate Daniel Kelly. The teenager was handed his first-team debut by the gaffer last month, and he repaid such faith tonight with a goal.
The ball came to the midfielder at the edge of the box from a Yang cut-back, and he fired into the top corner with ease. His second-half cameo was hugely impressive, his strike all the more so when one finds out it came via his weak foot.
Post-match, Rodgers admitted his delight at his side’s performance, while also heaping praise on young Kelly: “It was a great finish from him (Kelly)”, he said (Celtic TV via The Celtic Way).
“I can be envious of him as a Celtic supporter because he has been here since he was eight years of age and that is all that hard work paying off.”
Still just 18, Kelly has a bright future in football. He is a standout whenever he plays for Celtic B and for all involved with the club, it is pleasing to see him transfer his form into the senior game.
Rodgers has a history of developing young talents throughout his career, and it seems as though Kelly could be the next.
