Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was left a frustrated figure after his side dropped two pivotal points in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon. It was a concerning performance from the Hoops who couldn’t find a winner after Nicolas Kuhn drew them level.
Saturday’s draw only highlighted the fact that the Celts are in a title race, but it has not come as a shock to gaffer Rodgers. Post-match this afternoon, the double-treble-winning boss spoke out, admitting he anticipated Rangers to put up a fight: “I expected nothing more”, he said (BBC Sportsound via Football Scotland).
“You come into every season and you expect that (challenge), though some people will maybe feel that you should be 10-15 points clear but any competitive team and club will always make sure that they’re there to fight. But so are we.”
Although Rodgers may have expected a title fight, he would not have expected his team to have thrown a lead away in the manner they have. Earlier in the campaign, The Bhoys sat pretty at the top of the table, but in football, things can change in the blink of an eye.
For Celtic, it seems as though they have and the manager now claims that all along, he foresaw a challenge for the league. His fears have now come to fruition because, at the minute, things aren’t looking up regarding the title.
Hibernian will provide yet another challenge at Easter Road on Wednesday night and if the current champions aren’t up to the mark, things will only become more hostile.
