Brendan Rodgers, has voiced his confidence in new signing Adam Idah, highlighting the striker’s genuine quality and potential to excel at the club.
Rodgers drew comparisons to former Celtic star Moussa Dembele, expressing hope that Idah could follow a similar path of success.
Despite doubts surrounding Idah’s abilities, Rodgers remains confident in the striker’s talent and character. Highlighting Idah’s determination and mindset to succeed after the challenges of playing in the Premier League at such a young age.
Rodgers said (Scottish Sun): “I’ve had players like this before who people maybe doubt, but he’s still young. Adam has genuine quality. If I can unlock that with him … he has everything.
“I remember when Moussa Dembele came up here, the qualities he had. Adam, his goals to game ratio, and having arguably played at a higher level, is arguably greater.
“Moussa went on and had a brilliant career here and I’m hoping Adam can do that as well. He’s shown he can do that. His actual conversion of chances ratio is good.
“But he’s got to get into those areas. Obviously, a lot those chances that have been talked about are in the Premier League, which is such a high level. He was an 18-year-old and was in about that.
“He’s 22, six foot two, quick, strong, is a good guy, he’s clever, he’s not daft. And he comes here with a mindset to do well and hopefully we’ll benefit from that for this period and let’s see what happens after that.”
Rodgers’ positive comments on Idah show his belief in the young Irish striker, who at 18 years old was immediately thrust into the Norwich City first-team setup in the Premier League.
Idah’s career has been stop-start so far due to injuries, but the Irishman appears to be over that now and is clearly at Celtic for regular first-team football.
With Celtic desperately needing a different dimension upfront from Kyogo Furuhashi, Idah possesses greater physicality and the ability to hold up play. Unlike Kyogo, who at times this season has found himself uninvolved in Celtic’s more patient build-up play under Rodgers.
