It seems as though the majority of talk surrounding Celtic at the minute is about injuries and as we head into Saturday’s game against St. Johnstone, the topic is yet to change.
Indeed, manager Brendan Rodgers spoke to the media at Lennoxtown on Friday afternoon and provided several updates on his squad, one of the most notable regarding centre-back Liam Scales.
The manager confirmed that his fellow Irishman will miss this weekend’s match due to an injury he sustained in training: “Liam Scales will miss the game, we think”, he said (Clyde 1 SSB).
“He’s picked up a knock in training. He’s been so robust. His robustness, everything about him has been great since he came into the team so sadly he misses this game because he’s played virtually every other minute.”
Although Scales’ absence will come as somewhat of a blow given the fact he’s barely missed any matches this campaign, Rodgers eased fears about the timeline of his injury: “He should be back after the international break”, he said.
With the 25-year-old unavailable, the opportunity presents itself for Stephen Welsh to continue in the team.
The manager confirmed Cameron Carter-Vickers is fit and available after featuring in training today, so one expects the academy graduate will partner the American colossus in Scales’ absence.
Although this latest injury comes as a blow, with Carter-Vickers’ availability, the Celtic backline should cope with no qualms.
