Ex St. Johnstone Striker Tells Hilarious Celtic Supporting Story

Former St. Johnstone striker Joe Gormley has told a hilarious story about supporting Celtic while he was playing for the Perth side.

Gormley turned out for the Saints for just a few months at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, accumulating just two appearances in all competitions.

The club does not remember him for what he did on the pitch. Rather, Gormley is known – rather hysterically – for his antics off it.

Belfast-born, the now 34-year-old is a diehard Celtic fan. As Perth isn’t far from Glasgow, Gormley managed to organise a few tickets to go to a game at Parkhead while he was a St. Johnstone player.

Although he enjoyed going to see his boyhood team, he soon regretted his decision when he was caught in the Hoops. For such an offence, Gormley was given stern warnings by St. Johnstone’s chairman and then captain.

He retold the story on the Mentality Monsters Podcast where he ended up on the motorway on the way to a game: “There was me standing in the middle of a motorway in a Celtic top”, he said.

“I go into training on Monday and the chairman pulls me and he’s like ‘What the f*** are you doing? You can’t be standing in the middle of a motorway, wearing a Celtic top, and playing for St. Johnstone’.

“The captain and all was like ‘What? You’re playing for St. Johnstone you can’t be doing that’. I was like ‘Oh s***’. I think after there the boys were probably like ‘f*** him’.”
