Celtic’s Alistair Johnston to Star in Copa America

Canada has qualified for this year’s Copa America in the United States after defeating Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 in a crucial play-off match held in Texas.

Celtic’s Alistair Johnston was instrumental in the victory, playing the full match as a part of a three-man defence alongside Joel Waterman and Kamal Miller.

The game’s turning point came in the 61st minute when Cyle Larin’s precise finish put Canada ahead, capitalising on their dominant play. Jacob Shaffelburg sealed the win with a late goal, sparking celebrations among the Canadian contingent.

The victory secures Canada’s participation in a challenging group stage, with fixtures against Peru and Chile set for June 20th at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. These matches are crucial for Canada’s ambition to progress to the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament.

Johnston’s summer will be packed with football, aligning with Celtic’s tour in the United States where they are scheduled to play high-profile friendlies against DC United, Manchester City, and Chelsea in late July.

There should be a number of Celtic players out on international duty in the summer with the Euros also set to take place.

The likes of Callum McGregor, Greg Taylor and Anthony Ralston could be in the Scotland squad in Germany.
