Nicolas Kuhn’s January move to Celtic from Rapid Vienna didn’t start as anyone would’ve planned with the winger failing to hit the ground running despite his goal against Aberdeen.
He ended up dropping down the pecking order, with Hyunjun Yang regaining his spot in the team, and even when Celtic were chasing the game at Hearts, Kuhn remained on the bench for the whole match.
A turning point came following Yang’s suspension, which opened a spot for Kuhn against Livingston in the Scottish Cup. Seizing the opportunity, Kuhn contributed an assist in the 4-2 victory, and put in an all-round good performance. His subsequent performance against St Johnstone continued this positive trend with a goal and an assist, with another positive display.
Kuhn’s recent performances have stirred optimism among Celtic supporters, who now see him as a vital asset in the team’s offensive strategy, particularly with his ability to penetrate defences and outmanoeuvre opponents. His resemblance in playing style to former Celtic winger Patrick Roberts, as noted by pundit Tam McManus, underscores Kuhn’s emerging role as a creative force on the flank.
Tam McManus said: [PLZ Soccer] “I think the last two games, he [Kuhn] looks quite Patrick Roberts-like, not as good as him, I don’t think, but he’s a similar type of player, he moves similar to Patrick Roberts, he cuts in.
“He put a great ball in for Kyogo’s goal and got a goal himself, so I think those two (Kuhn and Kyogo) looking sharper in the forward areas is going to help Celtic in the run-in.”
