Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has cleared up the injury situation surrounding his captain Callum McGregor.
The midfielder has been missing since half-time of the Hoops’ 7-1 thumping of Dundee two and a half weeks ago, his absence in the team proving noticeable.
There has been a lack of cohesion surrounding the extent of his injury with contrasting reports surfacing.
In his pre-St. Johnstone press conference, however, Rodgers cleared up the situation, admitting that McGregor will miss this weekend’s game, but that he expects him to be back in a few weeks: “Like I said at the beginning of the process, I expect him to be back after the international break”, he said (Clyde 1 SSB).
“He’s feeling good, but he needs to get some clearance work in over this next week to 10 days and we’ll assess it for the Livingston game when we get back.”
Although the manager didn’t sound overly enthusiastic in his tone when speaking about the situation, the fact the skipper, who is key to everything Celtic do, could return ahead of a pivotal title run-in is massive.
It seems as though he will be ready to face Rangers at Ibrox on the 7th of April (unless there are any unexpected mishaps between now and then), which should fill fans with utmost encouragement.
