Brendan Rodgers Issues Callum McGregor Injury Update

Following Celtic’s 4-2 win over Livingston yesterday that fired them into the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, manager Brendan Rodgers provided an update on the state of his captain Callum McGregor.

The midfielder has been missing since half-time of the Hoops’ enthralling 7-1 victory over Dundee a week and a half ago.

It was reported last night that the skipper could miss the remainder of the season. Although such news is hugely worrying, Rodgers’ latest comments should ease fans’ fears.

After the win over Livi, the gaffer explained the situation and gave a timeline behind a potential return: “The level that he brings the game to is beyond what a lot of our players can do”, he said (Glasgow Times).

“Fingers crossed again we can get to the bottom of that and he’ll be available after the international break.”

Having McGregor back in the team ahead of the crucial Glasgow derby on April 7th would be colossal for Celtic.

The 30-year-old provides an energy and dynamism to the champions’ game that few of his teammates can.

He sets the tone in the big matches and there is no doubt that his absence at Ibrox would have a negative impact on the whole team.
