Sydney van Hooijdonk, currently on loan at Norwich City, has opened up about the speculation linking him with a move to Celtic in January.
Despite the widespread rumours during the winter transfer window suggesting that Celtic were keen on securing his services to bolster their attacking options, van Hooijdonk has clarified that no discussions took place between him and the Scottish champions at that time. He did, however, acknowledge some level of contact last summer.
The narrative of van Hooijdonk potentially joining Celtic was intriguing to many, especially given his family ties to the club through his father, Pierre van Hooijdonk, who is remembered fondly by Celtic fans for his contributions during his playing days.
Nonetheless, Sydney van Hooijdonk has expressed contentment with his decision to join Norwich City, a club currently competing in the English Championship and vying for a playoff spot to secure promotion to the Premier League.
In conversation with Pink Un, van Hooijdonk spoke about the rumours and his decision-making process: “To be honest, I didn’t speak with Celtic this winter. You see a lot of things, but this winter, I didn’t speak with them. Yes, last summer, there was a bit. It is a lovely club, and I am a fan of them as well, but the Championship and a team that is fighting for the play-offs was really nice. This league is at a higher level than that league, so I’m really happy to be here.”
