Brendan Rodgers Shuts Down Liel Abada Speculation

Interest from MLS clubs Austin FC and Atlanta United has surfaced, with the transfer window in the United States open until April 23, providing a potential escape route for Abada from his current situation at Celtic.

Atlanta United, having previously secured a deal for Giorgos Giakoumakis from Celtic, is rumoured to be in a favourable position to negotiate for Abada. A reunion with Giakoumakis could appeal to Abada, considering their productive partnership in Glasgow.

Amidst these transfer speculations, it was reported that Abada might be willing to forfeit a portion of his entitled sale fee to facilitate a move away from Celtic and possibly even rip up his contract. However, when questioned about these developments and the possibility of contract termination, Celtic’s stance remains unchanged, with no progress in resolving Abada’s predicament.

Responding to inquiries about the recent reports and any discussions regarding contract termination, Brendan Rodgers said on Celtic TV, “No. There is no update on that. He is still in the same situation and it is difficult for him. We will see if there is a resolution to that.” Additionally, regarding the suggestion of Abada’s willingness to rip up his contract, the response was clear: “I haven’t heard that. No.”

As the situation unfolds, Abada’s future at Celtic hangs in the balance, with the club and player both seemingly looking for a resolution that could see the Israeli winger continue his career elsewhere.
