Celtic defeated St. Mirren by two goals to nil on Sunday afternoon, goals from Kyogo and Daizen Maeda ensuring a pivotal victory was secured. It was a professional performance from The Bhoys that secured their place in the last eight of the Scottish Cup.
There were times when St. Mirren threatened but The Bhoys remained grounded, defending stoutly and failing to hit the panic button. Post-match, Callum McGregor reacted to the win.
The skipper hailed his side’s thorough display that commanded the match. Speaking live on air on Viaplay, McGregor spoke out: “Really good performance”, he said.
“I thought (we had) good enough control in the game and I think we’re getting better all the time.
“We just keep going, we don’t listen to anyone else, we just keep building.”
Compared to recent matches, today’s victory was rather comfortable. Getting a second goal in these types of matches is pivotal, and it gives the team a sense of insurance.
For the supporters, also, being 2-0 up allows them to enjoy the game more and not be worried about their team conceding and losing their lead in the space of a few seconds.
That was the case today, with the Celts coming away with a fully deserved and greatly proficient Scottish Cup win.
