Brendan Rodgers has shared an encouraging update on Greg Taylor, revealing the defender has resumed training after a groin strain. Taylor picked up the injury in a Scottish Cup win over Buckie Thistle and has been sidelined for matches against Ross County and Aberdeen.
Although he won’t make it for the midweek clash at Easter Road, there’s optimism he might return for the weekend game against St Mirren.
Rodgers was upbeat about the squad’s condition, particularly highlighting Daizen Maeda’s comeback as a positive development. “How’s the squad?” . “Yeah, all good. Good couple of days training. Injury wise, nobody back from injury but in terms of Daizen Maeda he’s back which is great news, he’s fit and healthy.” Rodgers told Celtic TV.
“We’ll see how [Greg] is for the weekend, he’s out on the pitch and moving really well, working well. It’ll just be getting the sign-off from the medical team. We’ll see, if it’s not the weekend he’ll be ready for the next game.”
The urgency for Taylor’s return is amplified by Celtic’s recent struggles to fill the left-back position effectively. The January transfer window closed without the team securing a new left back, putting the spotlight on Alexandro Bernabei’s performances, which have been less than convincing.
His outing against Aberdeen was notably poor, leading to his substitution for right back Anthony Ralston.
It will be interesting to see who Brendan goes with on Wednesday evening.
