Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has highlighted his concerns over Celtic’s recent transfer windows. The Englishman believes that the club simply aren’t planning well and aren’t being smart about how they recruit players.
Sutton did not hold back with Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic recruitment team heavily criticised. He also worries that if the club don’t fix things soon, it will be too late, with the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup still at stake.
He said (Daily Record): “There is no use in finger-pointing at Parkhead – because everyone is at fault.
“We never heard a peep about struggling to bring in signings in the last couple of seasons under Ange Postecoglou.
“I just can’t fathom how they have got to this point. Make no mistake, they are gambling with the title here.
“Rodgers is now talking about fixing things in the summer – but by then it could be too late. And if the title is not delivered it will take plenty of bravery to answer to the fans.”
Sutton’s comments echo many supporters’ views that was happened in the last two transfer windows is a serious regression on the journey the Hoops went on under Ange Postecoglou.
With Brendan Rodgers re-joining Celtic in the summer for a second spell, supporters hoped that the Irishman would be backed seriously in the transfer market. However, this has simply not materialised.
Celtic failed to sign a left back in the January transfer window despite Greg Taylor being currently side-lined with a calf strain for a number of weeks. Alexandro Bernabei will likely continue to deputise in Taylor’s absence, with the Argentine starting against Ross County last weekend.
The Hoops were also previously linked with a move for a goalkeeper, but were unable to secure a long-term successor to Joe Hart, with Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah the club’s only January arrivals.
