Marco Tilio signed for Celtic in the summer transfer window as one of the hottest prospects in Australian football. Amid a wealth of injury struggles and failure to impress in training, he didn’t get to make his debut for the club until late November.
In total, he has made just two appearances in green and white, failing to register any goal contributions. Because the winger had such a tough start to life in Glasgow, he was sent back to Melbourne City on loan for the second half of the season.
Rumblings of a January move away for Tilio had been ongoing for a while, and this deal came as no surprise. The 22-year-old has joined his former club as he looks to regain consistency and develop.
Having a productive spell back in his homeland would aid Tilio’s Celtic career. He will have the chance to impress when he returns to Glasgow if finds form down under.
Upon his move back to City, however, manager Aurelio Vidmar has claimed Tilio’s time at Celtic wasn’t the greatest for him: “It’s really exciting for us and for Tills as well, because he hasn’t had much fun over the past six months since he moved to Celtic”, he said (Glasgow Times).
“He wants to get back and start playing again. Get back to the form that he was in before he left the club.”
It seems as though Tilio is eager to play games, something he was unable to do in Glasgow. Fans of Celtic have barely seen the Aussie wide-man in action but if he hits the ground running back in oz, who knows what his Parkhead future could look like?
