Rodgers Defends Loan Strategy as Celtic Welcome Idah on Deadline Day

In a move that has stirred much debate among the Celtic faithful, the club is poised to announce the loan signing of Adam Idah from Norwich City, making him their second January acquisition after the permanent deal for Nicolas Kuhn. The decision to bring a loan player has been met with mixed reactions, but manager Brendan Rodgers stands firmly behind the strategy.

Speaking on the matter, Rodgers offered a pragmatic view to SunSport. “Ideally you want to have players who you know are going to be here for a few seasons to grow and develop. But there always has to be a balance between both loan players and permanent signings.

“Permanent signings aren’t always possible. Having had the experience here before, there’s always going to be that revolving door. You’ll always have that core of players who you want to keep here but if you look at the movement of squads here over two-to-three-year periods, that’s always going to happen. In the modern game, you have to be able to adapt to that.”

While Rodgers acknowledges the benefits of long-term signings, he also highlights the necessity of being adaptable in the current football landscape. This approach, however, has not quelled the concerns of a segment of the Celtic support. The key issue for many isn’t the concept of loan signings itself, but rather the execution of this month’s transfer window strategy. The concern lies in what is perceived as a haphazard approach, culminating in a last-minute scramble to secure a striker who has struggled for game time at Norwich.

The hope among the Celtic fans is that Idah proves to be a successful addition to the squad. Nevertheless, there is a palpable sense of frustration over the perceived lack of direction from the recruitment team. With the window closing, it remains to be seen whether this latest move will pay dividends in Celtic’s pursuit of silverware.
